The Man Who Remixed Tony De Vit
The Man Who Remixed Tony De Vit

For me, Tony De Vit wrote the rulebook for UK hard house. So when I look back at the official remixes and TDV-connected releases I’ve worked on, I feel a proper sense of pride.
I reckon I may have remixed more of Tony’s music than anyone. That’s my personal count, not an independently verified statistic or an industry leaderboard. I’m basing it on the releases below, and I’m careful with the wording: some are Tony De Vit titles; others are connected releases by associated artists. The count is nine remixes across eight tracks, because I’ve officially remixed The Dawn twice.

My original roots are in hardcore, house, hard trance and hard house — so Tony’s world was home turf long before I ever remixed a note of his music.
The list, as I count it
- The Dawn (Nicholson Remix): TDV20 Edition, Maelstrom Records (2018)
- The Dawn (Carl Nicholson Extended Remix): TDV Records (February 2024)
- I Don’t Care (Nicholson Remix). Tidy (2022)
- Burning Up (Nicholson Extended Remix): TDV Records
- Give Me A Reason ft Niki Mak (Nicholson Extended Remix): TDV Records
- Hooked (Nicholson Remix): 99th Floor Elevators, Hard-Drive/Tidy (2019); the vinyl issue was limited to 300 copies
- Dreams (Cathedral Remix), Quench, Magik Muzik (2018)
- Schöneberg, Marmion (2017)
- Welcome (I Said Shut Up) (Nicholson Remix). Committee, Tidy (2021)
You can browse the wider Nicholson music catalogue for more of my release and remix credits. The official Tidy Trax release of Hooked (Remixes) includes both my remix and Tony’s own remix of the 99th Floor Elevators track.
Returning to The Dawn
The two versions of The Dawn mean a lot to me. The first appeared on the TDV20 Edition in 2018; the second, The Dawn (Carl Nicholson Extended Remix), came out on TDV Records in February 2024. I’m the only person to have officially remixed The Dawn twice.
That’s a detail I’m proud of, but not because it’s a trophy to wave about. It’s the chance to return to a piece of music connected with Tony and make a second official version. The record is still The Dawn; my name is on two remixes of it. That’s a distinction I don’t take lightly.

More than a list of credits
A list can tell you what came out and where. It can’t fully explain what it means to be part of the music and the work of remembering Tony.
I also helped organise a Tony De Vit memorial at Brixton Academy. From that tribute came ART, Always Remember Tony, as both a tribute event and an artistic philosophy. For me, that name says something simple: remembering an artist doesn’t have to stop at looking back. It can also shape how you approach the music you make now.
That’s one reason I’m grateful for these releases. They gave me a way to contribute through the work itself, and to be part of keeping Tony’s music in view. There’s no need to dress that up. It means a lot to me.

Keeping the credit honest
I’ve written the count as I see it, rather than trying to turn it into a headline statistic. The list includes different kinds of TDV-connected releases, and not every track is a Tony De Vit original. Hooked, for example, is by 99th Floor Elevators; Dreams is by Quench; Schöneberg is by Marmion; and Welcome (I Said Shut Up) is by Committee.
That context matters. These are credits I value, and the list is there for anyone who wants to check the titles. My personal claim is just that the body of work adds up to something unusual: nine remixes across eight tracks, including two official versions of The Dawn.

I’m proud to have had a hand in this part of Tony’s musical legacy. Not because a number settles anything, but because the music still gives people a reason to listen, revisit and remember. And if my count makes you want to put one of those records on again, that’s a pretty good result.
